What's your favorite cryptid? I've been on kind of a cryptid kick of late. It's fun because cryptids are regional. Your country, region, state, county probably all have location-specific cryptids in your mythos. I've been doing a little research to maybe tie one into a work, but its leaked out a whole bunch of others.
You can tell a lot about a region and the anxieties of those regions by their cryptids. And Florida has a fun variety equal to its unique environment. We're full of beaches, but also swamps, the everglades, forests, and worst of all--development. I'd say our cryptids match that energy.
In my neck of the woods, Skunk Ape is a big one, both literally and figuratively. The stinky ape man is a beloved meme, but did you know there are more 'verified' sightings of Skunk Ape than there are of Bigfoot? A whole bunch of those sightings originated in my county of Broward!
