I believe that we are the designers of our life.
Why?
Because we have the power of choice.
Designing a life is crafting your life with intention. Life-designing is about making conscious choices, again and again.
As part of my doctorate, I’ve been going deeply into life-design and these 5 supports are the big game-changers:
Mindfulness,
Learning,
Habits & Actions,
Growth Mindset, and
Connection.
Mindfulness is the core quality. Mindful learning, mindful habits, mindful growth, and mindful connection. When we bring a quality of mindfulness to our life, our life is more authentic. We know who we are, and we allow ourselves to authentically shine forth.
Learning allows us to change our life whenever we want. If we are not happy where we are, or with what we are doing, we can learn a new way, a new skill.
Habits and actions are how change takes place. When we want to change our life, we can’t just think about it, we have to do something about it.
Growth mindset, I believe, is one of the secrets to happiness. Instead of criticizing ourselves for where we are, a growth mindset focuses on the improvements we are making in our life. It is so very encouraging. Growth mindset is a beautiful thing.
Connection to others and connection to ourself makes life rich and rewarding and sets us up for success.
Q: Do you have a good mindfulness practice that you do each day, like journaling and/or meditating? If not, how can you add a 10-minute practice to your day? (You only need a few minutes and the payoff is exponential.)
A:
Q: What new skill(s) might you need for your goal? How can you learn this?
(You may need to learn a new skill in order to create the life that you envision. Embrace the adventure.)
A:
Q: What little action can you take each day to take you to your dream? (It doesn’t have to be big. Consistency is the secret elixir here. All you have to do is work on your dream a little bit each day, or as close to every day as you can, and you will be astounded at the results.)
A:
Q: How can you keep a growth mindset?
(Do you want to keep a daily list of your “wins?” Do you want to use a mantra, for example — “Every day and in every way, I am learning and growing.” When you are working on a big goal or project it can feel like you have a huge field you have to plant. And we can get so busy focusing on the tulip bulb in our hand that we forget to look up and see the acres of tulips that we have already planted and that are coming into bloom.)
A:
Q: For connection, do you want to join a support group or work on your dream with a buddy? (You have a much greater chance of succeeding if you are working on your goal with others.)

These 5 supports are foundational. They are your scaffolding, holding you up and helping you extend your reach.
