10 Reasons Why Path is Better Than Goals

Think Path, Not Goals

Dear ,

I’m a big believer in thinking in terms of “Path,” rather than goals.

When I set goals for myself, I felt time pressure, fear of failure, and I inevitably ended up quitting because I couldn’t live up to my own expectations.

BUT… when I think in terms of Path, rather than goal, it gives me space to explore, learn, and change along the way. And I end up achieving more than I expected.

Here’s how it works:

Let’s say you have a dream — there’s something you want to do, to be, or to have. That’s great! Dreams bring life force to you. They make you come alive. They give your life direction.

In the old days, you would set a specific goal for yourself, with a specific due-date. There’s nothing wrong with this, but the non-completion rate is very high for goals and it can be a high-pressure, high-stress experience.

But when you think in terms of a Path you want to take, rather than a finish line to cross, you allow the journey to transform you. You let your dream take you on a beautiful journey.

** 10 Benefits of Path vs Goals **

1. Continuous Growth:

Path = leads to lifelong learning and personal development

Goals = the focus is only about attaining one specific goal

2. Flexibility:

Path = allows for adaptability and adjustments along the way

Goals = can sometimes be rigid and resistant to change

3. Resilience:

Path = builds resilience and learning from setbacks

Goals = tend to lead to discouragement and a fear of failure.

4. Enjoying the Process:

Path = encourages finding joy and fulfillment in the present moment

Goals = can cause you to overlook the beauty of the journey

5. Sustainable Progress:

Path = establishes sustainable habits and routines that lead to consistent progress

Goals = fixate solely on one outcome and one deadline

6. Multiple Outcomes:

Path = allows for the exploration of multiple possibilities and outcomes

Goals = restrict options

7. Personal Development:

Path = encourages self-discovery and the journey of becoming

Goals = are about achieving and can come from Ego-mind, rather than Higher-mind

8. Openness to Opportunities:

Path =  allows you to be open to unexpected opportunities and serendipitous moments that can lead to new and exciting directions

Goals = can feel “locked in”

9. Mindfulness and Presence:

Path = emphasizes being present in each moment, fostering mindfulness and gratitude Goals = the goal-oriented mindset often fixates on future outcomes

and can neglect the present

10. Sustainable Motivation:

Path =  provides ongoing motivation by finding fulfillment in the process itself

Goals = a goal-oriented approach can lead to a dip in motivation once the goal is achieved or if obstacles arise.

Have I convinced you to think Path, rather than goal? When the world was slower, I think goal-setting worked just fine. But things change so quickly now and Path allows you to learn and adapt. I think Path is also a much kinder way to pursue your dreams. Each day you just “touch the path,” and before you know it you have achieved higher goals than you could have imagined in the beginning.

If you’re not sure what your Path is, hit reply and tell me what your dream or goal is. I will help you turn that into an easy-to-do, achievable Path experience.
