Hi, my name is Debbie Happy Cohen and I’m the creator of Joy-Based Living, a global community and information hub for people who genuinely value personal development. I’m also a life coach.
I have a fun activity for you that will help you make time for both the big and the little goals and dreams in your life.
20 Small Wishes with Debbie Happy Cohen
1) WRITE OUT 20 SMALL WISHES YOU HAVE
The only rule is that each wish has to be pretty easy to accomplish.
Choose things you’ve thought about or wondered about but just haven’t gotten around to yet.
It’s helpful to think about what’s near to you… in your local area, or even your home.
Examples: Visit hot springs. See the biggest cast iron skillet in the world. Actually hug a tree. Pet a giraffe. Make a special recipe. Attend a gospel church to hear the choir. Chat with a friend about your true feelings. Learn to fish. It can be ANYTHING!
Here are a couple of prompts to help you:
“I’ve always wanted to…”
“I’ve been thinking about…”
“I sometimes wonder about…”
“This could be fun…”
AFTER you’ve written 20 small wishes, then go to step 2.
2) PICK ONE OF YOUR SMALL WISHES
Have fun with this! It’s going to feel exciting!
3) SCHEDULE A BLOCK OF TIME
Get out your calendar or smart phone and schedule time for you to have that ONE experience.
4) REPEAT STEPS 2 & 3...
Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you’ve completed all 20 wishes.
5) JOURNAL ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCES!

Here’s why this 20 Small Wishes activity is important…
- These SMALL activities can add BIG ALIVENESS to your life.
- The only way to REALLY get to know yourself and BECOME yourself is to get out there and live your life. You’ll discover all sorts of things about yourself.
- You’ll learn what lights you up, what you find to be “meh” and what you REALLY can’t stand doing. (Like the time I attempted to learn knitting... ‘twas the longest 8 minutes ever! I hated it! Lol! But I have never regretted giving it a try.)
- You’ll stimulate your brain and body which is good for optimal health and well-being.
- You have no idea the friends you’ll make along the way.
- You’ll increase your confidence and self-esteem.
- You have nothing to lose and a life to gain.
Some experiences are so much fun that they can change your life.
For example, Kam Showers, a customer service rep, made “karaoke” the second activity she did from her wish list.
She had so much fun that she kept going back to sing some more. Within a few weeks, she made friends in the music scene. Within a couple of years, she became a professional singer.
I’m so proud of you that you are taking action on your dreams — big and small.
Taking new action can feel scary, even if the steps are SMALL.
If you’re doing the 20 Small Wishes activities… and you find doubts and fears getting in the way (I call them NAUGHTY NINJAS)… I created a free series to help you defeat them!
