If you missed my last email, I'm moving, and as such, I've been feeling shitty because I haven't been able to write while I do all of the things involved in packing, planning, and preparing. As it isn't just as simple as moving from one place to another when you own a home, you must have a place to move to, then prepare said home for sale and then suffer anxiety at knowing there are a few months of overlap that you're surviving on credit cards.
I won't get into the nitty of how much moving paralyzes my ADHD brain as I see one thing that needs to get done over there, and then another thing that I pass by on my where to "there" and let's just say that my focus to finish one room is unsuccessful so far. I'm trying to focus on the excitement of starting fresh as opposed to the anxiety of everything else.
It got me thinking how one of my characters feels about abandoning everything they've known and starting fresh in the unknown of the alien exchange. The Exchange makes it easier, since they provide enough credits from participating to cover expenses on Earth and their living expenses are covered during their exchange while also providing them credits to use when they finish.
Violet in Her Alien Exchange was using the program to escape her life temporarily, leaving an abusive relationship, fully expecting to return after a rotation around the sun, so she didn't really plan anything. It was spare of the moment, split decision making, impulsive, and she had plenty of distraction not to really ponder too deeply on the implications of everything she's known being gone. Due to my move, it has delayed things, but my mind is still whirring while I pack, and I did have one plot that I was thinking about before as I was writing, and then my mind just threw me this new idea for him and Jayden that I'm just tickled with excitement for, even more so than the trajectory I had before.
Jayden is missing from the human attraction studies that she was originally supposed to be enrolled in, but she never "missed" her shuttle at all. She joined the study because most of the transports to Trillume were hard to secure, and it was a way for her to get off planet without much effort, but she had no intentions of joining an attraction study. She wanted to join the crew and explore the universe, it didn't hurt that she happened to be very good at her job. People underestimate an assistant, but an assistant has to know not only the job, but other people's jobs and be very good a coordinating and organization. She was observant and could easily bluff her way into any position she wanted, which was exactly what she did. She just didn't realize that the commander would try to find out who she was... and come looking for the real Jayden. She was merely one human, why was the whole ship looking for her? Her only relief was that they were looking for a female, and she was pretending to be a male. As long as the meds she got from the Medic kept suppressing her cycle, she was pretty sure she could just ride this out until the Commander's obsession faded with time... Her Alien Captor is in the works, and I hope you're as excited as I am! Definitely read Her Alien Warrior and you can meet Commander Tensel before he meets his own match.
