Sometimes, it feels like being abducted when I work on a new alien romance book.

Readers are on Earth waiting to be beamed up into the world I'm creating made of words and pages, and romance. When I'm there, the vast emptiness of space in my mind can lead to anxiety and fears that while I'm away, readers will have found a new abduction experience in my absence and forget to return when my spaceship is ready.

I'm happy that there are other spaceships and adventures to visit, but it's a real worry that my own Starship Sky Robert will be forgotten when it returns to pick up where we left off.

On a whim, I took a week off from focusing on self-imposed deadlines and worrying about whether readers will forget about me between book launches and waiting for the next book to come out, to do a writing exercise based on a s3x bot prompt from my book bestie.

It's a real fear for indies that we'll be forgotten between books and struggle to reach the top of someone's TBR time and time again.

To make being an author a full time living we need to create a fan base of readers who can rely on us to provide a good story and they trust us to provide an entertaining shared mind hallucination from our brainium to theirs.

That is a lot of pressure and so I removed that invisible weight to write TKManAteHer just for fun.

It started out as a spoof of the female dominated s3x bot industry, because I thought it was about time there was a robot for the D as well wrapped up in some Terminator save humanity vibes that rely on his ever hard rod for our salvation. But as usual, I couldn't stop myself from turning it all mushy and by the end I'm not sure if it was very spoof like at all.

I put it out into the world for your reading pleasure. One week of my time to write, edit, narrate, format and launch. When I was an accountant, I usually made around $1000 a work week.

I doubt the book will see $1000 for my time (Around $25 an hour), but I'm pleased to report that without any launch prep or marketing efforts. The book had around 85+ downloads so far (around $30) and has received 4-5 stars from reviewers. Overall, a positive response from my little diversion.

Who knows, maybe Thrust King #9 may be my very first book to actually pay me for my time and not just breakeven on expenses 🤣. Wouldn't that be hilarious? I would absolutely love that.

Either way, technically speaking TKManateher is my most profitable book since I only invested my time on this project and didn't pay for a cover, editing, a narrator, or anything. I made the cover myself in Canva (So, I guess if you quantified it, Canva costs me $10/mo, I used Adobe Audition in my studio to narrate the audiobook, Audition costs me $44.mo with my Creative Suite) With those expenses, and my time, that would mean I invested ($54.00 and 40 hours in the creation of this book)

My indie goal is to eventually make a living wage writing books and I have a 50 books to 50k plan. If every book makes around $3.00 a day (That's just one or two people a day per book) Then I would need 50 books to have a full-time author career.

I've got 5 so far! Jewel of the Alien Bandit, Her Alien Prince, Her Alien Savior, Her Alien Warrior, and the newest edition Her Alien Insurgent! Her Alien Exchange doesn't really count since you all get it for freesies! And my Taking Medusa Romantasy book doesn't count because technically it's part of my other platform and will take the same effort on that front to reach the same results. So, really my romantasy books are only at book one!

Author updates!

This is the place in my newsletter where you can check up on my wordcount/progress on any given project. So, if you're excited about something and where I'm at with it, or what's next on the writing agenda, this is the place to check. I don't post this anywhere else but on my newsletter. Not even my website has a progress update zone.

Sky, why are there so many books in your author updates? Because my brain doesn't follow a straight path towards the end of any given story. I bounce from book to book until one finally reaches the finish line. This is like playing a game of roulette with my brainium on which book it will actually focus on. Funny enough, I read the same way with multiple books if I don't finish a book in one sitting, it can usually take me longer to complete reading it because I end up hopping to another book and then coming back to it. Sometimes, I get a surge of hyper fixation and a story is all I can think about... to the point where I forget to eat, or really have much of an attention span for other things. I get the same way with cleaning sometimes. The place will be a mess, and then all of a sudden, cleaning is all I can focus on. Anyways, you get the point. I'm a mess.

When you grab the book direct, more pennies are kept with the author. For every 99 penny book, an indie makes around 35 cents from Amazon.

Dragon's Oath: is the next freebie I'm working on to give to everyone on the newsletter! It's a darker alien dragon romance, but with plenty of humorous banter to help take the dark edge off and of course, lovely spice with plot as usual. This will be a series; I have 3 covers picked up to explore this idea with!

Goblin's Treasure: is a darker fae romantasy about being abducted into the Goblin Kingdom with Labyrinth feels but older and spicier. Her Alien Starbreaker My goal is to have this completed before end of September 2024 for an anthology. Best of all, the personal cover for the book is commissioned by Deborah Garcia! So, this is the first cover I have made from commissioned artwork instead of cover designers! (Note: I make sure all my covers are done by designers that do NOT support A.I., No A.I. is used for my covers, nor my writing. I R hooman.)
