The secret power of libraries, guilty of keeping it sheathed🔥✨

how to arm yourself with the power of libraries

Hey ,

I am guilty of not taking advantage of the services readily available to me for freesies, until my friend Jeff was telling me about a book he loved and thought I would enjoy. He talked it up, and said he loved the audiobook, and I cringed because of the familiar feeling of thinking, "I can't afford this..."

Food prices have skyrocketed, everything is so expensive just to exist these days. What used to cost 5 bills now you can't even have fast food for less than 10 to 15 for a single meal! Even for people who cook at home it's ridiculous! Chicken breasts are 10-15, and that's not including getting carrots, potatoes, sour cream, butter, seasoning, chives, breadcrumbs for a meal for two it still costs the same as going out for fast food, but at least it's healthier at home haha.

I've gotten used to only eating one meal a day, and pretending my brewed coffee in the morning is breakfast. Many times, my hubs comes into my closet where I write and shakes his head asking if I've eaten today. I get all up in my head about the affordability of life, and how skipping a few meals means I feel less guilty of having my Kindle Unlimited membership. Plus, if you have kids you know that you pay for lots of food for them to eat, only for them to scrunch their nose up and refuse to eat. I cringe at the wasted food, and try to be the human disposal service for their waste.

That being said, there are some books that are NOT in Kindle Unlimited. So, when I committed to share the Johannes Cabal series with my friend Jeff, I dug out my library card, and signed up with OverDrive, and downloaded the app Libby to read/listen to books on my phone from my local library!

I'm on book two now listening to the audiobook through Libby app on my phone!

Most people do not take advantage of their local libraries, and it's super easy to get even indie books like Kingdom of Acatalec to your preferred reading platform through your local library.

In the US (I know this won't necessarily work the same way for other countries, and I'd love to know how you use your library system in another country, so please do share if you have insights into UK and others on getting your books through the library.)

We have Overdrive:

If you search for a book and it isn't in your library, you can contact your local library to request it be added to their system.

All suggestions for new books for the library is being moved from online through the library website to the Libby App after May 1st, 2023 Libby App will be the only way to request new books be added to the library.

Can I recommend a title for my library to purchase in Libby? (libbyapp.com)

YES! Yes you can! You can still request it online through the library Overdrive site until May 1st 2023 when they retire the online recommendations, but you can still recommend on Libby APP by clicking the "notify" button, which alerts your library of your desire to borrow the book. Plus, when they decide to add the e-book/audiobook to their database you'll get notified and be able to borrow it right away! Two libraries have already added Kingdom of Acatalec to their system!

Finding and tagging titles not offered by your library (libbyapp.com)

Screen shot of the Libby app, simply search for the book, and click the notify button.

I know my book is available in a few libraries already, but I'm unsure which library it's in, because all I see is an "Overdrive" purchase through my publisher.

It shows up like this on my quarterly report from my publisher:

Hoopla - Midwest Tape, LLC

OverDrive - Content Reserve

Howard County Library System

Mauney Memorial Library

Sooooo, if you are part of these library systems then the book is ALREADY there for you to borrow!

If you're in a different library system, click that "notify me" button and if you email me back which library system you are in, I can contact the library with a sell sheet and help boost the desire to get the book in your hands!

Download Libby APP to your phone/tablet/computer, connect your local library, search Kingdom of Acatalec, and click that "notify me" button to recommend your library grab the book so not only can you read for free, but so can others!

Magical world of aliens, check.

Lots of secrets, and world building check, and check.

Mystery, murder, and lies... Absolutely!

The romance takes longer to develop, yup.

MC is in a wheelchair, and that doesn't stop her from kicking ass, YESSSS!

It starts off slow, then takes off like a rocket and sucks you into the new world of Acatalec, full of adventure, romance, magic, and a futuristic Seattle with sciencey possibilities like drones as the future of transportation, brain implants like what we see Elon Musk engineering, and contact lenses that connect with it.

Here's what people have been saying about the book so far!

This is the first book in a new scifi romance series and each novel has a satisfying Happy for Now ending for the hero and heroine, not a cliffhanger. Some overarching issues do remain unresolved in each book since this is a series but romance always wins the day in her novels!

ill Garrison, a maintenance tech at the Sectors Amarcae 7 colony, goes to sleep one night as usual only to wake up in her nightgown stranded in the middle of a forest on an unknown world. There’s no time to think as she’s stalked by carnivorous predators and rescued by genetically engineered warriors calling themselves the Badari. Turns out they and she, along with her whole colony, are now prisoners of the Khagrish, a ruthless race of alien scientists. Working for enemies of the Sectors, the Khagrish have created the Badari to be super soldiers.

Aydarr, the Badari alpha, isn’t sure he can trust Jill but his attraction to her is undeniable. He impulsively claims her as his mate to prevent her death at the hands of the Khagrish.

Can he continue to protect her from the experiments already underway? Will his claiming her put his pack in jeopardy from their alien masters?

As Jill searches for a way to rescue her fellow humans and get them all to safety, she finds herself falling for Aydarr, despite the secrets he’s keeping. She has a few of her own.

The situation becomes dire when Aydarr and his pack are sent offplanet on a mission, leaving Jill unprotected, prey for the senior scientist. Can she escape the experiments he has in mind for her? Will she be able to thwart the Khagrish plans and liberate humans and Badari alike? How will she and Aydarr reunite?
