Reaping Olympus Sneak Peek:
I gritted my teeth and pushed myself to move my wings like I was a bird. Despite the excessive wind generation that felt like it could knock someone over, it didn’t lift me from the ground.
“You’re being too literal,” Mavron added from somewhere in the trees. I kept to the forest to train because I didn’t like the idea of being mocked by the demons, especially Lena, the one that tried to get rid of me for stealing her dream of becoming the next queen of the Underworld. Not that the title would stick for very long once the gates reopened. (Spoiler- highlight to see the words.)
Mavron continued to give his unsolicited advice, “Nothing about us is mortal. Mortal form doesn’t mean we follow the same rules. You’re wings don’t function like a bird. Your claws don’t extend like an lion. My tentacles don’t come out and move like arms and legs. In fact, there was a time where I stayed in my mortal form for too long and I had trouble adjusting to my true form because I had forgotten that I’m not mortal at all.”
“You’re being awfully talkative,” I pointed out. Suspicion had me folding my arms over my chest and glaring into the dark foliage. Mavron was more of a flirtatious talker, not a let’s give some advice kind of guy. Not that he wasn’t smart, he was. He saw right through my escape plan when we were in Atlantis, struck a deal with me to free him from his oath so he could protect the city and reunite with Poseidon, all without a single pair of pants. (Spoiler- highlight to see the words.)
But he’d been keeping his distance and giving me space to sort things out since I was pulled from the river of lost souls. Since Hades paid the price to wake me.
Mavron came out into the clearing and scratched the back of his neck, another sign that he was uncomfortable.
“I do care, you know.”
I sighed and let my arms fall back to my sides. “I know you do, but you have to admit you’re more of a what can I do, not a what can I say kind of guy. Like the food being left out for me when I come back to the loft. Or the way you’ve kept the demons from coming to spy on me while I make a fool of myself. Or…” I was about to say that he’s been tirelessly trying to find where Orpheus disappeared to, but I didn’t want to admit that he might have been forced through the gates during the solstice ceremony. Or worse, lost to the river if he went in after me when I tried to save the ferry for the souls.
“We’ll find him,” Mavron promised.
All I could do was nod. What more was there to do? I couldn’t risk going back into the river without a plan, without mastering my power. Mavron was also right that I was thinking too literal. The claws were working much faster now and not once was I thinking they were my hands. They were a feeling that I grasped and held onto.
The desire to defend and this odd tingling sensation along my skin that I could only describe as an urge to become stronger for those around me.
The wings must work off of a similar feeling, but I was focusing on moving my shoulder blades up and down like the flaps of an airplane. They should be an extension of myself like my claws, and the snakes in my hair that had now become more of a permanent look as of the last few days.
“I see you’re wearing pants today,” I mentioned to change the subject.
“They aren’t pants,” he corrected with a cheeky smile. “I’ve had many years to perfect shifting my skin to the same texture as my tentacles.”
I lifted a curious brow at the leather-esque non-pants with an obvious question of the lack of assets between his legs. He laughed and gave me a wink.
“Mating organs are internalized when I transform. They are in my left arm like this.” He lifted his arm and a different colored patch of skin with a strange texture.
“You’re telling me you could have done that instead of wrapping your tentacles around yourself?”
He lifted his hands up in surrender. “Hey, okay, I know what you’re thinking, but it’s uncomfortable to have my mating organs out on display like this without a drop of water for lubrication. Mortal flesh is better outside the sea.”
I wrinkled my nose at his explanation. It made sense. I didn’t fault him for it, but I was staring at his arm and only now processing that he was flashing me his genitals.
“Put that away,” I insisted with a wince as he lowered his arm.
With no shame he grinned as he said, “Only if you’re offering a place to put it. My body is at your service, Queeny.”
I almost choked on my own spit as I sucked in a breath at the same time as swallowing. It was like failing at the basic functions of life in my embarrassment.
Anyone else and I might have read more into his suggestion than there actually was with Mavron. If it were Hades I might have been upset because he would simply be teasing me about something he’d never give but found a sick pleasure in knowing that I wanted him. If it were Dion… Well, I’d already been there and knew that something was broken inside of me.
But Mavron, it was always a genuine offer with no strings attached. It didn’t change my answer, but it did change my reaction to know it wasn’t a way to trap, manipulate, or use me. Mavron was attractive, but the feeling that filled me after his offer was one of humor because the idea of crossing that line with him would probably be a joke that he continued long after the offer was no longer genuine. When both of us knew the answer, but enjoyed the tease of a comfortable friendship. I imagined that we had that kind of time in our future to reach that point. That’s what I was working towards. A future of easy troubles that didn’t have the kind of urgency and dire consequences of today.
After a pregnant pause between us, where both of us were probably thinking of what would come next for us, the time for delaying why he’d interrupted my training came to an end.
“Orpheus has been found," Mavron finally huffed out. So, when he said that we'd find him, he actually meant that he was already found?
I was walking before my voice could catch up. “Where is he?” And why did Mavron delay something that lessened the worry weighing on my soul?
“He’s not responsive.”
“What does that mean?”
“He was found by Lena deep at the center of the island where the vines are most alive. No one goes that far into the forest.”
Except for Lena, apparently, I thought with a scowl. Even Mavron was calling her Lena now like they were friends, and still he kept calling me Queeny. I knew it was an endearment, but it was another reminder that there would always be a level of obligation that he’d hold for me. Something that told him that he should be there for me because he believed in what I would accomplish for the dark gods, that he would be by my side when I inevitably fulfilled the prophecy of ending the fear of monsters being hunted by Olympians.
Find out how Medusa (Aless) came to lose Orpheus to begin with, and how she ended up in the Underworld by reading Taking Medusa, and Breaking Fate to get ready for Reaping Olympus, book three.

If you're new here: Here's an author recap: Hi, I'm Stevie. I'm a mom of two kiddos, and I write fantasy romance, and alien romances. I started with writing a YA vampire romance, and I retired the 3-book series because it wasn't the same kind of style as the rest of my books, and I didn't want those books to be the first impression readers got of my writing. I also wrote a sci-fi fantasy mash up Kingdom of Acatalec, got a traditional contract book deal, but it flopped because I wasn't and still am not that great at marketing it. I received my book rights back and will relaunch that book after I finish my Medusa Retelling Series.
That's mythology reimagined if you are like me and believe that the "monsters" of myth and legend were hunted by Greek gods because they were different, because they were a threat to their power and rule. Perhaps, the monsters weren't the bad guys after all, and Medusa wasn't the villain.
Dive into a slow-burn romance, fast-paced fantasy adventure with all the political mechanisms of Greek Myth, and the what-ifs from a different point of view.

Currently writing Projects: (Yes, I'm always writing in a rotation of projects all at once, and rotate until one is finished. It's how my brain functions. Before this process, I was unable to complete any project at all.) I release around 3 to 4 books a year. Please do not click that SPAM button. I'm a small indie author, even 1 single spam complaint out of my small 3,000 sized list of subscribers sends my newsletter OVER the "green" zone of below .01%. Anything over this percentage causes other readers who want to hear from me to potentially not see my emails as it hurts deliverability to their inboxes.

If anything, any affiliate links used help authors, including myself, subsidize the costs associated with staying in business. For instance, using a tagged link helps us see whether someone found our books from our own marketing efforts or through some other means, also with Amazon specifically, that puts a couple extra pennies from grabbing one of our books back to the author from the big company. More of your money goes to the author, and your costs remain the same. My affiliate links have regularly covered the cost of maintaining this newsletter.
