Yes, you read that correctly. My mom, unprovoked mind you, decided to listen to Jewel of the Alien Bandit on audiobook...
For some this may not be an issue, but my mom is the kind of reader who calls sex the dot dot dot, and skips over sexy scenes if they "pop" up in her romance novels.
I'm truly blessed to have a mom that is super proud of me, no matter if I write alien smut or not, but the discussion was had that she did not want to read my rated MA books. That was okay by me, but apparently that didn't extend to audiobooks, which in my opinion made the whole situation even more hilarious.
Okay, I have no embarrassment for what I write, so if she had told me she read my book, I would not have blushed so hard when she told me she immediately stopped reading, but it was immediately stopped listening, but she didn't stop soon enough!
If I had hired out a different narrator for Luan's parts, then this wouldn't have been so funny, but it was me. YES! I am the narrator for Luan's chapters.
Some of you may not know this, but I narrate audiobooks, for myself as well as other indie authors when I'm not writing or preventing an apocalypse at my homestead from crazy kiddos. I have my own studio space in my home -- I converted an old walk-in closet. So, I'm like Harry Potter, if you think about it, just not under the stairs.
So, when I say that my mom listened to my audiobook, what I mean to say is she basically listened to her own daughter do moaning sounds when it came to the sexy parts.
Go ahead, this is the part where you can laugh freely at my embarrassment.
But the amazing part was... if she got to that part, she listened to a good chunk of the book before clicking that mute button! I think it's 33% of the way through the book before the first fingering scene, and THANK the book gods that she did not listen to the very last sex scene that spans two whole chapters!
It's one thing to read smut, it's another for your mother to listen to you moan.
That is the moral of this story, I guess.
She "listened" at her own peril, even though she SWORE she wasn't going to even "read" the book.
