Out of the 5K readers who opened my newsletter when I gave it away for freesies, around 273 readers downloaded the book over the last few weeks. That's around 5% of the readers who saw the email, and technically 2% of my 13K subscribers on this newsletter!

That's pretty exciting to me. I know, I know, that may seem like small potatoes to some people. But it took me 3 years to build up to having 13,000 readers be on my newsletter to be able to have around 300 excited readers in one email download a book of mine. Sure, it's free, but if even half of those readers decide to support other books of mine, like the other books from the necia warrior series Her Alien Warrior, and Her Alien Savior, or decide to get excited and grab the full-length book version of the story then that's a win!

Now, some of you may be thinking that it's a cheap trick to give away an "excerpt" of a larger book, but that isn't what I did. I created a short story first. So, it's a complete story, and you get a HEAFN in the short story with the two mates choosing each other. So, my freesies story isn't a story that requires you to grab the full-length expansion.

Will you want to grab the full-length book? Yes, of course you will, because in a short story, you don't even get to the main climax, or the disastrous hurdles ahead for those two love birds.

As promised to the many fans who have already read Her Alien Warrior and want Commander Tensel to have the grovel and beg for his mate, though he gets his mate in similar Commander Tensel fashion in the short story, he has to work very hard to win her heart in the full-length story.

"The necia DNA will repair the kind of cancer you have."

"The kind of cancer I have?" That was a very curious way of describing it.

"Will you grant me your name, or should I continue to call you Earthling?"

"Is that all in my file?"

"Humans are so crass," another woman in a lab coat and practically nothing else underneath it said. She had pink skin, and beautiful jewels that pulsed with a soft light down her neck and scattered along her torso and legs. I stared at her until she scoffed and shook her beautiful bubblegum-colored hair tied up in a bun. "Of course she knows your name, but the trill do not speak names unless they are granted permission to use them. The fact that she even asked to use yours is an honor, but you must earn the right to speak her name. The last human she gave her name was because she had learned Trillix and offered a rarely received greeting from humans. Very few Earthlings give the effort of learning such a thing."

"Oh, I'm sorry for offending you. My name is Jayden McChall."

"Jayden of Earth, you are aware of what bonding a necia warrior entails?" the trill asked.

My cheeks flushed with heat and I nodded.

The jeweled alien chimed in, "To be certain, many necia warriors prefer a life of honored service and choose to live on a ship for a time before returning to their home planet to raise offspring. You would live in their quarters, and they will go into heat and seek out your bond. A necia warrior requires to drink your blood to prepare their seed to bond with your DNA."

I gulped down my nerves before resolving myself to mating an alien warrior.

I nodded.

"Is there someone already willing to mate with me?"

The jeweled lady smiled and brought up an image of a strong, yet stern appearing warrior with long braided hair of dark black. There were large spikes tipped with purple that came out of his shoulders.

"He's a security chief of the current ship in orbit. The same ship you came here on. He's aware of the dangers against humans and can protect you. He'll train you in the ways of the tribe, and he's agreed that the mating is not an ideal situation. He says that he will court you properly when the ship arrives back on Necias Prime. You'll meet him in one of the Blue District rooms in the upper floors to complete your bond. He's been given your blood to prepare for the heat. He needs to be back on board the ship as soon as possible to return to his position without alerting the commander of the bond."

"Are you saying that he doesn't want people to know we're mated?"

"Not exactly," the trill replied this time. "Necia are a proud species. He will cherish the bond, and treat you well, but it isn't safe for you to let anyone know that your mate bond was rushed due to medical necessity. It will open your bond up to being challenged by other warriors and impede the warrior's ability to do his job and protect you. He asks that you say you were waiting for him on Trillume and that you were not part of the new contracts aboard the ship."

"My name would be on the manifest wouldn't it?"

"It was, but I've taken care of that. You never boarded the vessel. Until you reach Necias Prime with your mate, you should go by a nickname. What would you like to be called until then?"

"Ayden?" Is that too close to my real name?

"It matters not, many human names sound strange and similar in sounds. All that matters is that your file doesn't match. We'll change the 'y' to an 'i', it's the same sound anyways. You can take your mate's name as well. Aiden Olben."

I was laughing now. "Our names sound so similar."

"He seemed to like the similarity like it was a sign from the goddess of your compatibility."

"I guess that's sweet."

"I know it isn't much time, but Olben is waiting to complete your bond. It's normal for you to sleep again after. You'll wake up in his living quarters once you're bonded."

"Oh, right..." This was quick. The pink alien escorted me up an elevator, down a hall and up another elevator until we were passing a blue-tinted hall filled with many doors like a hotel. A fancy, futuristic hotel.

"Just place your palm on the panel and it will open for you. I won't see you again from here, but you can reach us again by contacting the AI from the Blue District. He'll know who you're looking for, and Olben knows how to reach us. He's a security chief, and has a specialty in systems communication hacking."

"That's impressive."

Knowing my life was on the line, the woman walked down the hall, unconcerned with whether I would open the door or not.

A voice from the ceiling addressed me, "Welcome to the Blue District Aiden of Earth. It is an honor to host your mating ceremony. Please be aware, that though necia warriors do not mind my observation, I will not monitor your bonding based on human preferences."

"Uh, thanks?" I took a deep breath to steady my nerves. Many would probably think I was insane to be entering this room of my own free will, but I honestly didn't even know if I would survive the stasis chamber, let alone be alive long enough to fulfill my contract to serve an alien. This wasn't exactly how I imagined thing going, it almost felt like the alien was serving me by bonding with a complete stranger simply to save their life. It seemed too good to be true. Have sex with an alien and be cured because their DNA would merge with mine.

Would I even be human after this?

I felt very much like choosing between the virus that will kill me or the one that would save me.

A scanner blinked over my hand and flashed red. I remember in the brochure at the HET center that red was good for Trillume. Blue was the dangerous color, which was why the coloring of the necia warrior's spikes was intimidating for more than the impalement side of things. They were blue and purple tipped signaling danger.

As I entered the room, I heard heavy, labored breathing and grunting.

"Hello?" I flinched as the door slid closed behind me.

"Mate..." he struggled to speak.

Some of you may be thinking, "Hey, that wasn't Commander Tensel! That's Chief Olben!"

And I will say, "Yes, yes that is. You wanted Commander Tensel to have to work hard to earn his mate's love. Chief Olben is just one of those obstacles. No, there is no cheating. Necia warriors believe in earning a mate, and challenging mate bonds if they don't think the mates are happy. There is no lying, or behind the back romance. Necia warriors are very straight forward. Honor is important to them."
