Okay, so (breathes deeply), I can't even really believe this myself. I'm still in SHOCK as I write this. And literally, I am writing this email the MOMENT it happened, and yes... I'll admit that I will most likely re-read this email multiple times before you actually get to read it yourself, just to remind myself that it's real, and it's HAPPENING!

Here, I go.
So, some of you are probably like, okay she probably got a book deal or something. What else would she be this excited about? Well, if you guessed that, you'd be wrong, because I'm super indie forever vibes over here. I love having control over my own stuff, picking a great cover, picking my own narration partners for audiobooks, and not waiting years to have a book come out. Plus, complete control over marketing, allowing me to reach more readers. I mean, sure a big 5 publisher would give me more reach, or perhaps a Netflix adaptation would be COOL! But, those are future milestones, haha.
I totally would love a Netflix deal in the future!
I'm still waiting on the milestone of one of you reading my books, and creating fan art of my characters. Author dreams, you know.
My milestone today is being able to tell you that I talked with one of my FAVORITE Alien Romance authors, like one of the authors that actually got me interested in alien romance to begin with! Yes, there was a time when I knew nothing about alien romances, and she was one of my first introductions to it a few years ago, and honestly, she's the reason why I created a nom de plume Sky Robert and began writing my own alien romances!
If you aren't into Alien Romances you can skip this particular newsletter, but I figured even if you aren't into the steamier alien stuff then you might enjoy my little rant about my author journey, regardless of your interest in the genre. Some of you are on my newsletter for me, the author, or perhaps just because you like my sci-fi fantasy adventure mash ups that aren't so spicy. All my books regardless of the spice level, include a fun adventure plot wrapped either in a fantasy or sci-fi based world, including aliens, vampires, werewolves, fae, demons, witches, well anything supernatural.
Okay, okay, so you talked with this alien romance author, big deal, you may be thinking, BUT that isn't the end of my tale.
She agreed to share my book Her Alien Exchange and Jewel of the Alien Bandit with her newsletter, with her readers! That is the big deal! And not because anyone will ever see my book in her newsletter at all, but just because I can revel in being in the same email as her. She has a large newsletter following, but to be honest I don't believe more than 5 people will actually see my book, out of the 25,000+ people on her newsletter, plus her newsletter is now split up from her paranormal romances and her alien romances are separate newsletters, so not really completely sure how many people are on her alien romance newsletter, but us monster lovers are usually pretty active readers.
Why do you think only 5 people will see my books, you may ask? Because most of the books mentioned in her newsletter are in news speak, below the fold, or in email speak not viewable on first glance/you have to click "read more" in order to see it.
- update since creation of this newsletter! A solo mention opened up on Margo's newsletter! She added me a week ago, and I'm so honored! (How did this happen? Well, if you're an author and you're doing swaps with other authors, then never be afraid to email your swap partners. Become more than just another link they add to their newsletter. Become buddies in crime! All I had to do was show genuine interest and ask if my book would be mentioned above the "fold" or "read more" link. I got more than I asked for. I got a SOLO mention opportunity!

Did you miss it? You can grab it here. This particular alien romance is pretty heavy on the exhibitionism, and that isn't necessarily for everyone. It's got tons of people who have loved the steamy mummy quick read!
After you're finished reading and want to leave a review, it's important to note to look up by book, not the author, as she goes by two names, and sometimes that can get you lost in Goodreads.

I am still squealing over this.
Okay, whew. I know some of you might not be interested in alien romances, and that's okay, but I just had to tell everyone about this milestone in my author journey. I talked with, and collaborated with, an author that I absolutely adore. Now, here's the thing that most people don't know about authors they read. Authors at every stage and level of their career have self-doubt, and absolutely do not hear it enough that people are enjoying their worlds.
I will tell you that when I contacted Margo, I had no actual inkling that she would collaborate with me in this manner and had no expectation that she would. I'll tell you how this all began. I was invited to join this space called Alignable for networking, it's like LinkedIn, but different. And for this reason alone, better, because I got to talk directly with MARGO!
We connected, and I totally gushed about how she was author goals for me, and she replied back saying, "You have NO IDEA how much I needed to hear that tonight!" Her exact words. My alien romance hero needed me, or really anyone, but it happened to be me, telling her how much I loved her books, and my telling her, "I hope to have fans like she has..." was exactly what she needed to hear.
Ain't that they truth.
So, take a moment sometime this January, in this New Year of 2023, to tell one of your favorite authors how much you love their work. Whether that's replying back to one of their newsletters, leaving a nice review on one of their books, or sharing their book with friends or family. All of those things help an author feel loved, and sometimes that's exactly what we need! Even when they have over 20+ books written!

I'm listening to the Johannas Cabal series on audiobook, wanting to read Vexed by Vampires (Midlife Monsters #1) by Margo, as well as Lost Towers (Shattered Kingdom #4) by Angelina Steffort.
I was waiting for Margo's next release Stolen from the Bride Lottery, but that released this week, and now my next waiting for book is Harper L. Wood's What Lurks Between the Fates, Of Flesh and Bone #3, coming out in MARCH!
Also note, when a book is not available on Kindle Unlimited, I usually read/listen to it from my library, if it isn't with a library yet, I request it. Yes, I may have to wait longer, but it's actually super helpful to smaller authors to have people recommend their books to libraries, it can be a HUGE milestone for an author to be discovered through library systems. Anyways, that's a rant for another newsletter, but it's amazing how many people forget we have libraries!
