Are You Building a Team-or a Collection of Kingdoms?
Ford Motor Company was transformed under the leadership of Alan Mulally. Struggling with infighting, backstabbing, and finger-pointing, Ford was losing billions, and its reputation had sunk to new lows by 2006.
What was the true problem?
Not talent, not lack of resources-but a toxic culture of "me" over "we."
One concept I discussed was the "One Ford" philosophy: One Team. One Plan. One Goal. Under Mulally, success shifted from individual accomplishments to organizational achievement. Weekly, executives were expected to be transparent and collaborative, measuring their progress not by personal wins, but by how the company was performing as a whole.
