Living in Oregon, I'm extremely lucky to be surrounded by beautiful forests. I can drive an hour away in any direction from my house and visit stunning natural sights. It's especially radiant during the fall when autumn leaves shed their greens for yellows and reds, so I took advantage of the season to hike Silver Falls State Park. This expansive park showcases a 7.2 mile walking trail with just under a dozen waterfalls, the most spectular of which is South Falls:
Front View of South Falls
The scale might not be obvious with this photograph, but if you look closely in the middle, you can see a fenceline with itty-bitty people traversing behind the waterfall. That's right, you can view South Falls from two directions: in front and from behind.
Back View of South Falls
I love staring through the cascading water, deciduous trees shifting into orange for autumn, but the pines keeping it real with a splash of green. As my teenage daughter said when we took this picture, "The backside of water never looked so good."
I've long loved nature, which is why the first series I published was about druids protecting these very Oregon forests with their elemental magic. Ina, the headstrong lightning-powered protagonist of the series, travels not only to real waterfalls like South Falls, but the Oregon coast as well. She befriends the local wildlife while banishing evil monsters that lurk in the shadows.
To celebrate nature and all its magic, the Nature Wizard Box Set is on sale for 0.99 in the US/UK Amazon stores for one week.
