Hey ,
It's me again, your friendly neighborhood book weirdo, Stevie. For the love of all things fantasy and sci-fi adventure. And before a recent review, Thank you Patty, I really didn't connect the dots with these books until now.
What do you think of when you think of the Matrix?
For me... it's the white rabbit. The red or blue pill. And of course that moment when he finally realizes... he is THE ONE!
What do you think about with Ready Player One?
Plugging into a VR world and with a full submersion suit, feeling like you're really there! And if you've read Ready Player Two, then actually being so immersed that the line between reality and VR is blurred so much, many would rather live their lives in the game.
Now Hunger Games?
Life or death! What started as a way of creating peace between regions turned into entertainment for a death match, and also love?
Were these the elements that Patty thought of when she thought of Kingdom of Acatalec?
Like all awesome literature, great books can inspire new adventures. Was I planning on any of these elements to cross over? No, but I will tell you that Kingdom of Acatalec started off on WattPad called "My Digital Romance"
At first the whole Kingdom of Acatalec was a VR world that Tyler got sucked up into, and found that the VR world was actually a REAL world that she was able to connect to through VR, I wrote a whole 40k with it written this way, and then scrapped the whole thing, wrote from scratch with the ideas built from the original work, except no VR, Tyler is an adult, not a teen, and Kingdom of Acatalec is more proliferated into the Earth Realm, even owning a drone transportation business. haha.
This was Patty's review, so yes, you were right, the book was originally very inspired by the idea of VR being reality, but I wrote the original before Ready Player One even came out! Sometimes I believe humans are unconsciously connected with all of humanity sometimes, and people can have the same dreams, or know things, or have the same inspirations at the same time!
"This was a very interesting fantasy read. I must admit, it took me a while to get into the novel and figure out who all the key players were. At times it felt like “Player One” was blended with version of “The Matrix” and “The Hunger Games”. The alien/magical aspects, as well as the, AI and technological advances were very well described. I really liked how unique Taylor’s situation was and how her character grew and changed over time. It was a bit confusing as to who the “good” and “bad” characters were though and how they connected to Taylor. Who really WAS Cabel and Prince Wyndall, and what REALLY were their intentions? While there were some of these details missing, perhaps it is meant to be presented in the next novel in the series? I certainly hope so!" - Patty 4-star review.
First and foremost, Kingdom of Acatalec is a fantasy adventure set in a futuristic world with deadly drone races, a kingdom with a mysterious secret that could end both civilizations, and along the way you have two magical dudes that she crushes on, but she's got more important things to do like survive this new world with the skills she's honed through adversity.
Magical world of aliens, check.
Lots of secrets, and world building check, and check.
Mystery, murder, and lies... Absolutely!
The romance takes longer to develop, yup.
MC is in a wheelchair, and that doesn't stop her from kicking ass, YESSSS!
It starts off slow, then takes off like a rocket and sucks you into the new world of Acatalec, full of adventure, romance, magic, and a futuristic Seattle with sciencey possibilities like drones as the future of transportation, brain implants like what we see Elon Musk engineering, and contact lenses that connect with it.
What books have you been inspired by lately?
Stay tuned next Thursday for a sneak peek at book two of the Acatalec Series!
I've been distracted lately by launching my nom de plum Sky Robert for alien romances, and I apologize for the delays that causes the launch of book two, but I find myself overthinking my draft, and I want it to be as perfect as I can make it before I launch it. I have to do Tyler and Cable and Wyndall justice, and it means just because the first draft is finished, doesn't mean I can quite share it with readers yet. I have a lot of editing planned for this book. Scenes that need to be added, scenes that need to be flushed out more, all of the things.
In the meantime,
