Okay, on to my chat about the surprise at my daughter's daycare, and scroll down for details on the signed Paperback Giveaway, as well as the LOADS of goodies I've curated for this newsletter, I think I might have overdone it on this one! Sales, new releases, pre-orders, giveaways, OH MY!
No matter what stage an author is at in their career, the excitement of a new reader enjoying their worlds will always be the highlight of their day. It was for me anyways.
I dropped my daughter off at daycare/preschool, I call it school when I take her, so she gets to be a big girl like her brother. She learns a lot there, and I get a little bit of time twice a week to write/narrate audiobooks with the house quiet. And I gave my book, Kingdom of Acatalec, to the teachers there because they were excited when I told them I was an author.
To be clear, I really didn't have any expectations that any of them would read the book. Most people are polite about other people's professions and are people pleasers, who say they want to read something and never do. I considered the issue closed, and almost two months after I'd given them the book, one of them gave me a huge smile saying, "I've finished your book!"
Nervous smile in return, I want people to enjoy my book, of course, but I also am aware that not everyone is going to like my stories, so I waited for whatever she had to say. Would it be polite generics to be civil about things, or would she say the usual, "This isn't normally my kind of read, but I enjoyed it." This is the typical response I get for people who are trying to be polite, they believe the book is good, but they probably won't read more from me.
I was pleasantly surprised when she said she loved it, and then proceeded to chat about my characters with me, like we were living in a bubble of my fictional creation for a moment. She said she was drawn in and loved how the world was discovered as the main character discovered it. How she thought it was one thing and then was excited to know that was only one layer, and it twisted into something else entirely. How most books she's read you can tell the characters are all created by one author because they are all pretty much the same kind of characters but serving different purposes, and in my story each character was so unique, and dynamic, and she loved it! She told me, not to put pressure on you or anything, but I can't wait to read the next book!
These kinds of feelings are why an author shares their stories!
This encounter made my day and gave me motivation and eagerness to finish that next book. So, when you read something that makes you happy, and you want more... remember to write a review and tell the author that you're excited. You could be that spark of happiness for the author that helps them create your next great book for you sooner!
Writing is a pretty solitary endeavor, and we love to hear back from people who enjoy our worlds.

Want to know how I will randomize things? I will export everyone on my newsletter to an excel on December 15th, I will double check to make sure any added December 14th after midnight are removed. Then I will enter in the extra entries that have been emailed to me. Use Excel to randomize a total of 7 times. 7 seems like a good number. And pick the top two results. I will not use any 3rd party software for this to maintain data security.
