Hey ,
At the bottom of the email there is a freebie by G.R. Loreweaver with a wonderfully magical world, the most powerful witch of a generation, and a yummy monster hunter. Noctifer Magick is a slow-burn paranormal menage romance intended for readers over 18. If you enjoy competent but clumsy heroines and the men they love, you’ll devour Noctifer Magick, and Nearly Mated is the prequel to this beauty.
The "Defeat the Evil" Trope is so prevalent in most adventure stories. The call the action is usually about some evil force about to ruin the normalcy of the hero or world in a negative way. And I'm okay with the villain being "evil" to the hero for darkening their lives, or the lives of others, but what I hate about the trope is that a majority of the time the villain is just "evil" for the sake of being evil.
I hate the defeat the "evil" trope.
Even in some books that I actually really like this trope pops up, and I swear once I realize it's there, I constantly hope that I'm wrong about the trope and somewhere down the line the villain turns out not to be as evil as they are portrayed.
What? What are you saying Stevie? Yes, I realize that may sound like it defeats the point of challenges in the "hero's journey" and that oh so satisfying end of the "bad" guy getting what's coming to them.
But, hear me out.
Sure, the evil person should be punished, but what bugs me about most villains is that they are just "evil". I LOVE the villains that do bad shit, but you find out the reason why and you sympathize for them.
Sure, you don't condone their actions, and you certainly still want them to get their comeuppance, but something about that reveal of why they are doing something gives you that pause to think... if I were reading this book from their point of view would I be rooting for them despite all of the bad things they are doing?
I guess that's why I LOVE a good anti-hero, and most of my books have to do with twisting your opinions about who you originally thought was good or "evil". The story gives you pause to think... who should I be rooting for?
And sometimes even the people who try to kill us... are the ones we fall in love with when they end up being more hero than the person who's good. Flipping our opinions, and making us really appreciate that not even heroes are fully good, and all villains are a hero in their own story.
What trope do you hate?

If you've already gobbled up Kingdom of Acatalec, or read through your free prequel book My Abett, please take a moment to share your thoughts on all the places reviews are found, even if it's simply just smashing that star button.
This helps small fries like me afford their ramen, or support their addiction to coffee which fuels the next book. Plus, reviews and ratings do help motivate me to push through my imposter syndrome to write and edit book two of the Acatalec Series faster.
Thank you from all the inky crevasses of my heart.

Disclaimer: I haven't figured out how to put the required email disclaimer stuff in the footer of SendFox yet, but sometimes, not all the time, I do use affiliate links, at no cost to you, and I only recommend or promote things that I personally trust, checked out, want to read or have read myself. Books that I myself would share with friends and family. I do not sell your email/information. I also do not buy/spam emails. If you are on this newsletter it is because you clicked a marketing consent when you entered a sponsored giveaway for books, grabbed a free copy of one of my books, read one of my books, saw me on socials and thought, hey that person seems like my kind of weird and decided to click that join newsletter to find out more. Either way, if you're here it is because you wanted to join me in book rants, and if you don't want to anymore you are free to unsubscribe at any time, and also welcome to return at any time as well.
