And if you were wondering about the results of last week's romance book blast and like book data like I dooo, then check it out!

Taking Medusa had over 8,300+ downloads bringing it to #120 in overall Free Kindle Store, and #1 in Greko-Roman Mythology and Legends Fantasy and even #1 in Mythology category for a short time.

And extra 17 readers followed me on my Amazon profile, 13 new readers pre-ordered Breaking Fate, and 4 readers upgraded Taking Medusa to grab the Audible audiobook over the promotion!

Those are just the calculatable points over a few days time. I can't really know how many people will actually read the book, or leave it in their e-reader to disappear within the TBR.

But over 8,000 copies of Taking Medusa are out there in reader's phones and e-readers!

That is absolutely amazing!

In September of last year, I did the same event for my book Jewel of the Alien Bandit under my Sky Robert penname, and it received 6,237 downloads, and now has over 120+ reviews on Amazon, has over 85,000+ pages read in Kindle Unlimited pages since it was released.

I've seen some authors comment about reaching their goal of having 100,000 pages read in ONE month, and that would be amazing, but I'm pretty excited that Jewel of the Alien Bandit has been out for over a year and is only 15,000 pages away from reaching 100,000 pages read overall.

That isn't breaking even on my author costs, but this is the closest I have ever been to seeing a light within author mountain towards a pathway of making writing an actual career.

It's reaching a milestone on my journey.

It costs me on average around 1,400 to launch a book.

That would mean at least 700 people would have to pre-order my book at 2.99 for the book to break even on my investment. (That isn't including paying for my time, or future marketing expenses over the course of the book's lifespan)

My very first book had 5 preorders, my next book had zero preorders, my third book had 1 preorder. My first series was a flop, and I pulled the books because they need a complete revamp to be more marketable for a future relaunch. Many indie authors have similar results before they learn from their trial and errors and get a system that works for them in growing their tribe and finding their voice.

Taking Medusa had 38 preorders as my author brand relaunch with my writing voice firmly more in hand, and a better idea of what worked and didn't work for me.

After Taking Medusa being launched for 1 year now, it has 28,623 pages read in Kindle Unlimited, which is around 89 readers.

And Breaking Fate currently has 43 preorders, 7 away from reaching 50!

It's not 700 (which is my reference for breaking even on my launch costs) but I'm so excited for those super fans to enjoy the book and through word of mouth find more tribe members to join the adventure!

The Count Down to Breaking Fate's Launch BEGINS!

October 2nd is fast approaching! 3 MORE WEEKS!

And a special shout out thank you to Nancy with N.N. Light's Book Heaven that commented on my Instagram saying that I was to blame for her saying up until 2 am in the morning reading Breaking Fate and that somehow, I made the book better than book one! These are the words indie authors die over... in a good way. My heart died and was reborn with enough armor to rebuff imposter syndrome for at least a week with those kind of words! Hell, I'll probably repeat those words to myself for months to help push through my writing slump.

All writers get the slumps, and it is readers who love our books and tell us about it, that help give us enough fuel and motivation to keep going back to that page and plugging away! Thank you!

If you grabbed Taking Medusa, please do push it to the top of your TBR pile and give it a chance. I think you could be part of my tribe, and I'm excited to know your thoughts on the book!

Greek mythology, slow-burn romance, gods and monsters, fated mates, and a fantasy adventure that will have you turning those pages into the wee hours of the morning just like Nancy! <3 Also, if you're reading this Nancy, THANK YOU! You gave me the biggest smile ever when I read that you stayed up late/early, and believe book two is better than book one and you're not sure how that's possible when you LOVED book one so much that you re-read it and listened to the audiobook! You have no idea how much it means to me when readers give me all the feels like that!

Don't have Taking Medusa? You can read it in KU here: https://books.steviemarie.com/takingmedusa

Breaking Fate Snippet:

"What did you do?" I could still hear Poseidon growl through the golden crab shells secured behind my ears. They were magically connected with him, regardless of what Hades did, at least for the briefest of moments before realizing those were the last words I'd hear from him without Hades's permission.

"Fate is such a tricky mistress," Hades began with a cool demeanor. He wasn't talking to me, I realized soon enough. "I had a fated mate myself, brother. I followed my path and yet I was spurned for doing so. You avoid your own, and what? I'm supposed to congratulate you and hand her over without you proving to me your fate deserves to be happier than mine?" His haunted laugh still echoed in my mind as he finished with ignoring his brother that I could no longer see nor hear, then faced me to say, "I control who sees you, Little Goddess. Do a good job in your new role as protector and I will grant you time to do with as you choose. Do you choose to see your fated mate? Or perhaps you choose to see someone else?"

It was clear what he meant. Would I choose to see Poseidon, or Triton, instead? Or my sister?

"Are you the only one who can see me?" I asked first, ignoring his interest in my love life.

"Of course not," he balked. "It would grow tiresome. You'd become a pest that would never leave me alone. No, you have access to all the Underworld, and of course any dark god you wish to extend your protection to. As for other gods… that's a case-by-case basis. If they know what they're looking for then I can't say my protection will hold. But in the Underworld, the crown's power is absolute. It is where you will be safest when the time comes that Olympus discovers what you are up to."

"And what am I up to?" I wanted him to clarify my new role as an Underworld servant.

"My brother," he said plainly before he lifted a brow and clarified, "the one you aren't fated to, is overly obsessed with results. To the point that if there is even a miniscule chance that Apollo's prophecy can be interpreted a different way, he will see to squashing it. Anyone with Tartarus blood will be hunted, and as soon as you start to protect them, they’ll begin to gather, growing in number. Well, I don't need to spell it out for you, do I?"

"He'll think I'm building an army for war," I finished for him, my voice trailing off in thought.

"I knew you were clever," he mocked and then yawned like he was bored with our conversation.

Getting too much email? Reply back to this email with "Monthly" in the message and I'll move you over to my once a month letter usually sent out around the 15th of the month.

Please do not click that SPAM button. I'm a small indie author, even 1 single spam complaint out of my small 3,000 sized list of subscribers sends my newsletter OVER the "green" zone of below .01%. Anything over this percentage causes other readers who want to hear from me to potentially not see my emails as it hurts deliverability to their inboxes.

You are on my email list because you opted in either by grabbing my free book, finding me on the interwebs, or by joining a book giveaway geared towards meeting new authors such as myself. If you found yourself here by any other means, you're welcome to unsubscribe at anytime. I do not go around adding emails all willy nilly. I'm a one-person show here, and can't afford to have people on my list that don't want to be here. I follow all guidelines and laws regarding newsletters.

Disclaimer: sometimes my links have affiliate tags associated with them, this in no way influences who I decide to share with you on my newsletter, nor does it impact your experience with discovering new books. If anything, any affiliate links used help authors, including myself, subsidize the costs associated with staying in business. For instance, using a tagged link helps us see whether someone found our books from our own marketing efforts or through some other means, also with Amazon specifically, that puts a couple extra pennies from grabbing one of our books back to the author from the big company. More of your money goes to the author, and your costs remain the same. My affiliate links have regularly covered the cost of maintaining this newsletter. So, if anything, click on a link for my books, and even if you are not buying my book, feel free to go about your usual Amazon shopping to help support my books through stuff you would normally buy anyways. Stick it to "the man" and support indie authors while you do it. This has been a PSA announcement from yours truly. Sky
