I see a lot of debate about alien romances, well, paranormal romances in general, about the villainous, toxic love interest.
I will admit that though I try to keep my own romances flawed, morally gray but healthy, I can see the appeal of the toxic, all-consuming romance. It's a trope, and a popular one at that. I got sucked into a werewolf romance where the MC basically is an abusive dude that somehow becomes loving for her alone after realizing they are mates, a redemptive kind of thing, but still... it's not a very healthy relationship.
I like a morally gray character that is misunderstood, and is a villain in one person's story, but upon closer inspection is a hero in their own, but I admit I get sucked into the toxic romances sometimes, and I think that's okay. Not to condone the dark themes in most of those romances, but reading is about experiences, and it's okay to read things you would not expect or enjoy in real life to feel whatever feels you're going for at a time. Perhaps, there is an emotion captured there of feeling out of control and our subconscious needs to see the transformation of toxicity into healthy to help us cope with that. I say no kink shame, and do you, whatever that entails.
I just finished reading My Jurassic Mate by Michelle Deimos and I'd say her story is a perfect mixture of exploring the morality of our choices while also having some super spicy alien lizard peen.
The main alien Ash is self-righteous and as a leader of his tribe thinks he knows what's best for everyone, to the point that he literally takes away some of the human female's freedoms in the name of protecting them. It has some great moral quandaries to sift through there, and the MC is just a regular alien romance lover who joined a scientific research team to be shipped off to fuck some awesome alien peen.
So, I absolutely love that the MC is not being "abducted" and that she actually loves that she's being sent to this alien planet to mate with an alien. And her mate is a good lizard man, but it's because of her that he grows and realizes that he doesn't always know what's best or morally correct.

Here's my review:
It starts off like quite a few alien romances where an alien civilization is on the brink of extinction with a need for an influx of females for mating, human females are sent to this planet that is mostly without technology, very primal, and we have our fated mates! The first few chapters are confusing, because there is just too much information to absorb, too many characters to keep track of, and I think it could have done better if it started on chapter 3, then chapter 2, and completely deleted chapter 1.
Obviously, this is just my preference, and I usually like my romances a little more focused on the main characters, and then read the other romances to read about the rest of the mates more. There are a lot of human females and alien mates to keep track of in this installment, but the spicy scenes are great, and the story is fun to read, I enjoyed My Jurassic Mate quite a bit, and I will totally read book two.
I'd say the steam level is a 2 overall, but the scenes themselves are great! What's not to love about a flying dinosaur with a sheathed, size diff peen? You get a bit of language barrier fun and a mate that likes to chase to taste.
I loved that the MC wants to be sent to this planet to fuck her alien mate, and it's got a lot of great moral issues that it delves through really nicely. I liked this romance, and it's definitely worth a read.
