Out of Context quote:

"The gods know better than to tempt a curse like that." He saw the way my face fell, and he sputtered another awkward attempt at talking me out of it.

"I didn't say it to upset you. F-ck. Ugh, it was supposed to make you feel better. Because, you know, the gates were closed before, and they'll be reopened again. That was centuries ago and even at his scariest, he didn't actually go around killing all the gods. You'll live. That's what I was trying to say. Zeus' Light, I'm bad at this, aren't I? F-ck." -- Mavron in Breaking Fate

With over 70+ people signed up on the ARC team, I'm excited to see everyone's thoughts on the book come flooding in on launch week! OCTOBER 2nd 2024!

And with adapting the book to audio, I've found myself having not put a lot of words down on the page recently.

The slumps happen to everyone. Some call it writer's block, other call it a reader's vortex of doom. Either way, to be honest with you, I haven't written more than a few hundred words the entire month of September.

I have loads of excuses to give from Covid brain recovery, to rescheduling my kid's birthday party, to having to refocus my efforts towards narrating audiobooks in order to cover some household expenses, being roped into joining my kid's school PTA, and even my own unrealistic expectations of myself.

I thought for sure that I could plan out each day's hours and cram in narrating for two audiobooks a month while still having half the month to write, and also keep my kids alive.

What I found was that it took me 2 weeks to narrate a single, average-length audiobook, which I'm very proud of, if I do say so myself! And now, I'm trying to finish up narrating Breaking Fate before it launches October 2nd. I'm 50% of the way through recording that by the way. (Cheers and cookies)

And I've planned out my average recording time and my available hours to do so while the kids are in school, to find that ALL of my free time was taken up with recording, and I should finish up recording for Breaking Fate by the end of September, leaving very little time for writing...

September got away from me.

I'm not sure if that is considered a slump, or just a gross misunderstanding of my superpowers.

With what I know now, I will plan out October differently. I will be committing to doing only a single audiobook in the month, and then return to spending time writing. I've been being haunted by dreams of next scenes that I have been unable to write down... thus losing them to the ethos of the collective universe.

I'm actually thankful that I've had a "slump" this month as the launch of Breaking Fate approaches because it was a distraction from how the launch is going, or not going.

I can't help but feel anxious and overwhelmed with expectations of where I believe I should be after plugging away at things.

Sometimes a writer's "Wall" is simply there to give us a chance to lean on it for much needed rest before we return to climbing author mountain.

As an indie author, I'm bombarded with thoughts and questions like, "have I found enough ARC readers? Will I be able to reach 50+ reviews on the book by the end of launch month? Will the launch of book two help boost book one enough to finally break even on my costs enough to afford a book cover for book three? Will new readers see the negative reviews before the positive ones to give my book a chance? Will I ever make it as an indie author, or will I have to return to a desk job?"

Being an author is stressful, but it's also the only job I can spend so much time doing without feeling like my soul is dying.

I actually put that feeling of being out of place and like people's expectations can wither at the soul within Medusa in Breaking Fate. Hers is for a different reason, but both of us feel the pull of expectations and letting people down while feeling responsible for so much more that is out of our control.

Blurb

My blood can cure death, but it can also be the deadliest poison on Earth, and the gods will try to kill me just for existing. Hades wants me to join him. Zeus is still bitter about an age-old prophecy that the dark gods, the monsters of Tartarus, will rule Olympus. And Poseidon is the key to everything, maybe even my heart, but his son, Triton, rules Atlantis, and I accidentally killed his daughter, Coraline.

All I know for certain is the gods have mistreated us ‘monsters’ long enough, and I’m yanking through the ribbons of fate to change my history before I’m beheaded all over again.

My name is Alessandra, most call me Aless, and I had no idea my family was more than just superstitious, they were hiding me from the gods, and lying about who I was.

I was Medusa.

Getting too much email? Reply back to this email with "Monthly" in the message and I'll move you over to my once a month letter usually sent out around the 15th of the month.

Please do not click that SPAM button. I'm a small indie author, even 1 single spam complaint out of my small 3,000 sized list of subscribers sends my newsletter OVER the "green" zone of below .01%. Anything over this percentage causes other readers who want to hear from me to potentially not see my emails as it hurts deliverability to their inboxes.

You are on my email list because you opted in either by grabbing my free book, finding me on the interwebs, or by joining a book giveaway geared towards meeting new authors such as myself. If you found yourself here by any other means, you're welcome to unsubscribe at anytime. I do not go around adding emails all willy nilly. I'm a one-person show here, and can't afford to have people on my list that don't want to be here. I follow all guidelines and laws regarding newsletters.

Disclaimer: sometimes my links have affiliate tags associated with them, this in no way influences who I decide to share with you on my newsletter, nor does it impact your experience with discovering new books. If anything, any affiliate links used help authors, including myself, subsidize the costs associated with staying in business. For instance, using a tagged link helps us see whether someone found our books from our own marketing efforts or through some other means, also with Amazon specifically, that puts a couple extra pennies from grabbing one of our books back to the author from the big company. More of your money goes to the author, and your costs remain the same. My affiliate links have regularly covered the cost of maintaining this newsletter. So, if anything, click on a link for my books, and even if you are not buying my book, feel free to go about your usual Amazon shopping to help support my books through stuff you would normally buy anyways. Stick it to "the man" and support indie authors while you do it. This has been a PSA announcement from yours truly. Sky
