Hey ,
I read a post recently from a fellow author's Facebook group, who I shall not name, that posted:
"How many readers am I friends with? Not authors! Readers!"
WHat the actual FARKLE is happening to people that have decided to become writers that they somehow LOST the will to read?
First off, Sky, what the fuck is a farkle?
Yes, you're right, I should begin there. It's a fucked-up sparkle, because when you decide to become a writer there should be sparkles, and happiness, and kumbaya of lovers of books supporting this miraculous event when a reader decides to not simply consume, but to percolate that inspiration into their own wonderful universes.
But sometimes, something fucked-up happens, and the reader FORGETS that they can still read other people's worlds not just their own when they transform into a writer.
So, when I see a fellow author say something like the above statement of dividing author and reader... they thus have transformed in my mind into the kind of authorly beasts that I don't wish to fuck in a good way.
Because as I see it, separating author and reader means that they themselves do not consider themselves a reader, but an author, and only an author.
But not only that, they are ostracizing the sparkly writers that are also avid readers, because now the writer's insecurities start transforming into a monstrous all-consuming blob that tells them that they can only be one or the other, and they are obviously not good enough to be a writer so they must only be a reader, or perhaps since they are a writer with enough reviews of confirmation of their awesome writerly skills that they now can no longer be considered a reader.
Either way, my sparkly friends, I become irritated when I see this divide, and any writer that does not also consider themselves a reader, or who divides these, I REFUSE to read their work.
Questions like the above make me not feel welcome in the Facebook Group as a reader, nor as an author. Now, I'm not saying this author doesn't read books, but the question is telling about the state of many writers out there that have missed the sparkle, and turned a forked road towards farkle.
Speaking of Sparkly, I wanted to share with everyone my latest read by Jennifer Julie Miller, available in Kindle Unlimited:
This is book 7 in a series, and I started on this book. I did not read the others, BUT I WILL! I would like to say that you can jump into this book, or any other book in the series, just like I did, but even though it is a standalone romance, there were definitely areas that I wished I had started from book one, first.
The book was AWESOME, don't misunderstand, but if you read book 7 first you will get spoilers, and I know for certain that if I had read the other books first that I would have LOVED this book way more than I did jumping in cold nipple-ing' it.
This book is slow-burn, compared to most of my sci-fi romances, and it is heavy on the sci-fi tech, so it won't be for everyone. People who don't like too much scientific stuff with their fun alien smut, may want to pass. If you're looking for a read that has some smutty goodness before the 50% marker, or even the 60% marker, this isn't the one for you. There is some steamy bits at around 62%, but it is NOT, I repeat, not the main MC's, dirty little secret time.
The story has multiple POVs between chapters, including the MCs but also some other characters as well, so for people who have read the beginning books it's a nice little reprise to enjoy more time with MC's from the past.
This is deep Sci-fi Adventure with a slow-burn romance built over time with the hero nursing the MC back to health from near death. The hero is also in a bad health way, and later the tables are turned, and she must nurse him back to health. It's a very sweet romance, and I absolutely loved it!
Was it what I was expecting? Nope. But am I happy I discovered it? YES! I'm super excited to read the first book, and get to know DaR, before book 7! haha. It's kind of nice to know I have 6 other books to prolong the universe and enjoy Jennifer's story more, from the BEGINNING! haha.
If you want to experience this series like me, be a rebel and start from book 7:

Unlike my lovely new obsession Jennifer, I tend to have a bit of spicy a lot SOONER in a book, because well, that's what I like, and I like to write what I like to read, so... if you want to dive into the Trillume Universe for your own dose of sweet, sweet alien romance with Jewel of the Alien Bandit on Kindle Unlimited if you like alien outlaws, princesses of a struggling planet, and a bit of political intrigue with your alien peen.
SBee Reviews 5-star review said, " This new-to-me author offered an enticing first look into her multi-layered sci-fi series showcasing unique aliens with real heart and grit paired with ages-old societal and mating challenges. The worldbuilding groundwork has been artfully laid, along with the introductions of the (hopefully anticipated) characters for the next installments to come."

Planets have fallen under her rule, entire species have been nearly eradicated, and she plans on doing it once more for the sake of a precious stone that is used to burn cleaner and more efficiently for space travel.
Trent pushes back, seeking to overthrow the queen and replace her with a new one, but can he do it before more lives are lost? And when he meets his Kansa fated mate... will he abandon everything he worked for, or perhaps she's the one that will save them all?
