Alien Lovers UNITE, ,
Welcome to the smuttier side of romance books with alien peens and the mates that love them.
Today's newsletter is WAYyyy later than when I normally send it out, and I could blame it on my power being repaired, which is totally legit, but really, if I planned out my newsletters AHEAD of time, like a grown up... it wouldn't have been an issue. But since I very much avoid as much adulting as possible, here we are. Late... but not absent?
I dropped the kiddo off with Grandma, and I'm excited that tomorrow I will probably get lots of writing done! I say probably because like the memes about us writers go... sometimes we are the largest procrastinators.
Either way, on to the indie news of MORE Amazon updates that affect indies.
KDP printing cost increases.
That's right, last week was Kindle Unlimited increases and now it's KDP print increases. Including a new fixed costs of materials, and labor, across all printing and increased per-page cost for paperbacks.
What does this mean?
There is a 15 cent increase to the BASE print price per book plus a .005 cent per page increase from what the cost was before.
For a 300 page book that means the author loses 1.65 on their previous profit from selling a paperback print book.
As a reader, you may see a $1 to 2 increase in indie paperbacks due to this change in printing costs, which in my opinion isn't that much of an increase considering Amazon hasn't increased their printing costs for 6 years.
With the removal of setup fees from IngramSpark as of May 1st, this increase does put the zon at a disadvantage, but only for people that want to stick it to the zon... considering IngramSpark is still .008 cents per page MORE than the increased cost of KDP publishing, BUT they charge less for distribution costs than the zon does.
Soooo, really indies will probably start using BOTH for the print books. It's more cost effective to print the books with the zon for author copies and it's been said that the zon prevents some IngramSpark distribution books from making their way to the zon marketplace consistently. So, a win-win would be to do both, though not every indie has the capability of this.
For expanded distribution with Her Alien Prince for example, I only make 72 cents in profit from selling a print book of the 312 page paperback. Soooo, I will need to increase the price of paperback come the price change in June, otherwise I will be paying Amazon to distribute my book. As I said above the increase of price would be 1.65 for 300-page book, and I only make 72 cents on that distribution pathway at my current price of 12.95...soooo, I would need to increase the price by 1.71 (the price increase for Her Alien Prince) so that would make 14.66 which would be a weird price, so it would end up being 14.95 for future books to maintain any kind of royalty.
That being said, if you are interested in having a paperback from your favorite indie authors, now is the time to buy them before the price increase in June because I guarantee you, I am not the only indie keeping their paperback pricing so low despite not having a huge margin, because we want to see the books in people's hands. Meaning, I won't be the only indie author required to adjust the pricing of our books, so we don't OWE Amazon for printing the book when it sells.

Over 100+ 5-star Reviews!
I am Lady Assassin Krunch. Okay, not really.
But I’m dressed like her at the CosPlay Con I waited forever to attend. And I play her in the live action role play group I belong to. It’s nerdy. I’m aware. But there’s not a lot to do for a socially awkward pharmacy technician from Fargo, North Dakota to do.
My life is lonely and boring… until I get sucked into a portal through my phone at the Con and tossed into an alternate time on an alien planet.
Turns out I am Assassin Krunch after all because this planet makes all your desires come true. Except, I sort of crash landed in the middle of an alien wedding and now Gamalt, the priest of Tala Furi, who is also the groom, thinks I’m his fated mate. And his fiancé— ex? — wants me dead.
I may have accidentally started a war.
Oops.
Gamalt has magic hair and his body lights up like a holiday tree when we touch. He says it means we’re meant to be together. I think he has a screw loose. Fine, so he’s hot for an alien. But I just want to go home.
But it’s not that easy. My desires could cost Gamalt his life, and the choices I make will have consequences that even Assassin Krunch can’t fix.
What was that I was saying about my life being boring…?
Destroyed Desire is a part of the Scattered Galaxies shared world.
And of course Jewel of the Alien Bandit!

Eeep, and also, PNR Guild reviewed Her Alien Prince giving it a 4-star! Saying:
"This book is chock full of surprises, secrets, betrayals, romance, and sex. I was really surprised by some of the secrets revealed and all the wheeling dealing that went on so I had to keep glued to each page for fear I would miss something.
If you love sci-fi then don’t miss this series and although each book is stand-alone, I highly recommend beginning with book one."
