Welcome to the fantastical side of romance with magic and myth, ,
I'm 2/3 through the month of July, and last month in June my romantasy retelling of Medusa made under $10 for the whole month for book sales or pages read while included in KU.
Since removing it from KU, Taking Medusa and Breaking Fate have already doubled last month's income with $20 while being 2/3 of the way through the month from only e-book sales instead of KU pages read.
Part of the reason for this is that for every KU read through, I would only make $1.00 per reader, and for every e-book grab I would make around $3.00. So, instead of needing 20 readers in KU for $20.00, I only need 6 readers instead.
And yes, you could say having an extra 20 readers in KU AND having 6 readers outside of KU would make being in KU worth it. Except, if that was the case then I would have stayed in KU, because you'd be right. That would still be worth it.
But last month in June, I had 1 single reader who wanted to grab my paperback bringing in $4.00, and the rest used KU pages read, with not a single person grabbing the e-book. Anyone who has borrowed the book in KU will still be able to read the book in KU until they return it, but there were at least 5 readers who were reading my book in KU last month based on KU pages.
So, technically, I am still only finding an extra 6 new readers a month, but now I'm making the $3 per reader instead of $1 per reader, which is desperately needed if I want to afford book three's book cover and editing costs.
Average cost of editing is around $600 or more and a decent custom cover from a graphic designer can range for around $175 or more. I still haven't paid off those costs for book one Taking Medusa or book two Breaking Fate.
In order to break even on book one and book two, I would need to sell 827 more e-books.
To afford bringing book three to life, I need to have around 250 readers from books one and two that want to read book three!
Which is whyyyyyyyy, I'm willing to give EVERYONE on my newsletter today Taking Medusa for FREESIES from Curios for the next 24 hours!
My hope is that you read Taking Medusa, Fall in LOVE, review it, and grab Breaking Fate to help support the costs necessary for bringing book three to life this year! You can try out my writing with no risk and help support bringing new readers to my stories by reviewing it in all the places books are shared! Goodreads, Amazon, StoryGraph, BookBub, etc.
What is Taking Medusa about and why should you bump it up your TBR list? It's a modern twist on Medusa from her POV AFTER the Perseus beheads her and it's reunited with her stone body. It's a fated mates slow burn love story that will wreck the order of the gods. Think about it, most of the stories of myth are the gods sending someone out on a quest to kill a monster, and many of those monsters were just minding their own business until someone came along to kill them. Did any of the heroes of myth ask a monster to help them, or did they go to their lair with the intent to kill them to use their power? If I were a monster, I would call that self-defense if I killed a "hero" that was there to kill me. Who is the real bad guy of myth? That is what drove me to write this story. It's a WHAT IF the myths were written by the victors like our history is shaped by conquerors, and the truth of what happened is a completely different story?
I need your help to afford the next book cover and the cost of editing book three Reaping Olympus! And right now, you can read Taking Medusa for freesies, help it reach other readers by sharing your thoughts or rating it where books are shared, and if you have the means to help support bringing book three to life, you can choose to continue reading and grab Breaking Fate, and pre-order Reaping Olympus direct from Curios! Estimated release is in October 2025!

I finished reading The Goblin's Bride and The Doomed Prince by Leigh Kelsey and really enjoyed them, can't wait for book three to come out in January! It's a stabby FMC enemies to lovers romantasy. She's where I hope to be with my Medusa series by next year! She has over 500+ reviews of her book one, and book three isn't even out yet! I just hope to reach that level once I release book three, and readers have less anxiety about waiting for the whole story to be completed. I think having the series complete will help new readers feel more comfortable reading a new writer like me. We'll see!
Happy reading, and perhaps you'll find your next favorite read among the featured indie authors below! And for those of you wanting to know the status of where I am in writing the next book, scroll to the bottom!

Hi, I'm Stevie. I'm a mom of two kiddos, and I write fantasy romance, and alien romances. I started with writing a YA vampire romance, and I retired the 3-book series because it wasn't the same kind of style as the rest of my books, and I didn't want those books to be the first impression readers got of my writing. I also wrote a sci-fi fantasy mash up Kingdom of Acatalec, got a traditional contract book deal, but it flopped because I wasn't and still am not that great at marketing things without more control over what I can do with my books. I received my book rights back and will relaunch that book with my indie control after I finish my Medusa Retelling Series.
The Dark Gods Rising is mythology reimagined if you are like me and believe that the "monsters" of myth and legend were hunted by Greek gods because they were different, because they were a threat to their power and rule. Perhaps, the monsters weren't the bad guys after all, and Medusa wasn't the villain myth made her out to be. There is always more than one side to every story.
Dive into a slow-burn romance, fast-paced fantasy adventure with all the political mechanisms of Greek Myth, and the what-ifs from a different point of view.
