Sanur's favourite warung, a 40th birthday shortlist and a cooking class tie

Plus sundowners and s'mores at Andaz, a Halloween beach carnival and the fuel queue news.

G'day,

Welcome to this week's Things To Do In Sanur newsletter.

WHAT'S ON

The people's festival has short film premieres, a sustainable bazaar and workshops, and organisers want you to walk, cycle or catch the Intaran electric shuttle in. Here's the program.

Halloween hits the beach. The Mogi Halloween Beach Carnival is on Saturday 31 October from 4pm at Matahari Terbit Beach. It's built for families, with a costume parade, lantern making, games and a movie, and tickets run from IDR 200,000 to 320,000, about 18 to 29 bucks Aussie. detikBali has the details.

Still no dates for the Sanur Village Festival. Last year it kicked off in early November, so we'll shout the minute 2026 is locked in.

LIVE MUSIC THIS WEEK

Andaz Twilight at Fisherman's Club, Andaz Bali, Jl Danau Tamblingan. Daily from 5pm, with live entertainment that rotates through the week and rolls on into the evening.

Casablanca, Jl Danau Tamblingan 120. Local bands Monday to Saturday from about 9pm until 1am. Disco, classic rock and pop. Closed Sundays.

Pizzaria at Hyatt Regency Bali, Jl Danau Tamblingan. Acoustic music with Sunday brunch, 12 noon to 3pm.

Got a regular music night we've missed? Hit reply and tell us.

NEW IN SANUR

Two of the newer names on Honeycombers' Sanur cafe list are worth a coffee stop. Na-Ta by Patio on Jl Kusuma Sari 7 is fast becoming a resident favourite. Rue is Maya Sanur's new cafe on Jl Danau Tamblingan. Want to stay at Maya? Compare prices on Trip.com.

Over at the Hyatt, the new Italian Kitchen Party runs every Saturday from 6.30pm to 9.30pm at Pizzaria, with Italian food stalls and cocktails.

FROM THE THINGS TO DO IN SANUR FACEBOOK GROUP

Where's a really good warung? Coconut Tree on Jl Danau Tamblingan came out on top, backed by Mark and Debb, Jenny and Linda, and Sam rates Warung Coconut for its food and live music. Little Bird got three more votes, and Rama made a fair point: they all need our support.

Libby's hidden gem is Warung Rainbow on the main street. It's small and easy to walk past, but it was the best local meal they had. And Brian's advice? Go for a walk. Pick one. Hard to argue.

Sean's after a decent, not fancy, spot for his wife's 40th. Jungle Tree won this one easily with seven votes. Donna was sitting there as she replied, Clare has had three birthdays there, and Frankie says go on a live music night. Wendy's tip: book. The Glass House near ICON got four votes, and the Byrd House at Segara Village got three, with Rahni saying you can make a day of it.

Allison just had her birthday at Costa and says ask for the beachfront table. Scott's pick was the restaurant at Tandjung Sari, with a table on the sand and great service for a reasonable price. Clare's other idea, the Hyatt's Sunday brunch, is this week's stay pick below.

John's after a cooking class near the harbour, and it's a dead heat. Bamboo Shoots Cooking School and Chef Mudana got four votes each. Frankie says Bamboo Shoots served the best food they've ever had, and Jane loved Chef Mudana so much she did it twice this year. Miranda rates Novi's Bali Kitchen too.

Speaking of value, not every Sanur stay needs a pool butler. Here we check out three places we've stayed for under 50 bucks Aussie a night. Duyung Homestay is the cheapest at about $30, 200m from the beach, with free toast and coffee each morning. A bit of mould in the bathroom, mind you.

Hotel Jati is our best all rounder and our third stay there, around $45 to $50 with breakfast and a shop out front. Sari Villa is the most central, with a cool, quiet pool and laundry at 20K a kilo. Watch it here.

WORTH KNOWING

Fuel queues. Since 12 October, petrol stations across Bali have had long queues, and some have run out of Pertalite after delays unloading fuel tankers. Pertamina has sent extra tankers and has stations in Denpasar and Badung running 24 hours, but hasn't called it fixed. Hiring a scooter? Fill up when you see a short queue, and allow extra time for transfers and day trips. The Bali Times has the latest.

More swell. BMKG has warned of waves of 2.5m to 4m in the Indian Ocean south of Bali from 15 to 18 October. Got a fast boat to Penida or Lembongan booked? Check with your operator on the morning.
