Hello, everyone!
I've officially survived my first week at the new job. I'm building ion engines now. Which is pretty cool tbf, but sitting in the office every day sucks, and I'd much rather be at my home, with my dog, writing.
I also survived one year of publishing! What a wild year it's been, too. Six books published! Two audiobook series in work! And I'll also be posting A Little Salty on Tapas toward the end of December, which should be interesting.
I like numbers. I don't know if you like numbers, but to commemorate of the end of the year, I figured I'd share anyway.
Unsurprisingly, Fyre has far and away been the biggest hit.
I'm soooo close to hitting 2k books sold for the year, and I'm 72% sure I'll make it before Dec 31st!
Also unsurprisingly, ebooks were the most popular format. The vast majority of my paperback sales (85%) were made in person. But I was pleasantly surprised to see the audiobooks selling, too!
(FWIW, I got paid an advance for the audiobooks, and those haven't paid out yet, so I'm not actually seeing any income from the audiobook sales. But once the books pay out, that will be a new trickle of income!)
No surprise that Fyre did well on KU! But it's funny to think that Fyre has only been out since July, while Kanin launched last January. The page-reads alone roughly equal another 2100(!) books read. I'm juuuust shy of 1 million page reads.
And finally, for the total revenue. As you can see, the audiobook advances for Kanin 1-3 and Fyre 1 skew the numbers a bit. (Poor Nye and Sal, not getting any love, haha.) Between Amazon, selling at conventions, Patreon, and a single short story I sold to an anthology, I'm officially... [drum roll] 33% of the way to the "fulltime income" goal I'd need to quit my day job. In one year! I'm ecstatic with how far I've come. Here's to even more books next year!
(Though, I feel I should temper expectations for another year of 6 published books: going forward, I plan on publishing at least 3 books per year, in January, May, and September.)
As for Fyre, book 2, Fyre Fly, will be releasing in January! I don't have a date yet, as I just got the final edits back from my editor, but I should be able to incorporate the edits over the holidays and have the book ready for ARC readers around the beginning of the month!
If you're not already on my ARC list and would like to be, just reply to this email and I'll get you added.
And finally, as winter gift to you all, here's some art I commissioned of Kanin and Zyneth <3 This scene takes place in Book 4, Kanin Fyre, coming May 2026.
Happy Holidays, and I'll see you in the new year!
~Kia
