Welcome to the fantastical side of romance with magic and myth, ,
Recently, I confirmed that my rights have been returned to me from my publisher for Kingdom of Acatalec! That is great news, because I have the first draft of book two already completed, I just need to go through and do edits and finish buffing out the plot bunnies.
With my rights returned to me, that means that I can relaunch Kingdom of Acatalec myself. I'm thinking of simply combining my previously launched book one, and book two together after doing edits, and getting a new book cover with custom artwork.
I'm currently debating if I should do the artwork for the bookcover myself.
My art skills need refinement, so perhaps I spend some time practicing and improving my digital art skills.
Was thinking maybe something simple like a black and white cover with a singular pop of color.
Current idea sketch - but the creature called a rockjaw is still just a basic outline, much of the creature will come to life with more shading for depth, but I wanted to capture a before "idea" image and then have something to compare it to when I'm finished to see how much better my art becomes. Then I can decide if I want to use my own art, or hire someone else who has more experience to take my art and make it better.
A rockjaw in Kingdom of Acatalec is essentially a desert creature with hollow slits where eyes might have been, but it doesn't see. It has a large skull-like mongrel head, but cartilage flaps that flare out like wings, and a large, strong jaw that can open up to consume a human whole. Its claws dig through rock and sand, while its scales can move and push itself under the ground at high speeds. Nomads in the desert have trained to domesticate rockjaws and ride them. I'm excited to see the creature come to life one step at a time, layer by layer. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
I love writing fantasy stories and creating parallel universes, distant lands, new creatures, and adventures wrapped with romance. You can check out all my books on my website: https://www.steviemarie.com
The original Kingdom of Acatalec is still available in Audiobook on Audible for those who want to listen to it, I always had the audiobook rights to my story, but with all my rights returned, I'll work on relaunching the book with new edits and have a simultaneous release of book two for those who have waited for the continuation.

I've been watching that newest Netflix show called Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.
I am more of a k-drama binge watcher, and my patience is tested to wait until the end of September for the episodes to come out. I've been gobbling up each episode as it comes. I love a good slow burn, and a bit of an enemies to lovers vibe.

I've written 7 chapters into Reaping Olympus.
Projects I'm working on right now. Yes, I write multiple projects at the same time, because that's how my brain works. It gets all obsessive about one story for like a few weeks then gets distracted, then goes back to a previous project, and rotates around until it actually finishes something. Heart of Darkness has been in progress for
Happy reading, and perhaps you'll find your next favorite read among the featured indie authors below!

Hi, I'm Stevie. I'm a mom of two kiddos, and I write fantasy romance, and alien romances. I started with writing a YA vampire romance, and I retired the 3-book series because it wasn't the same kind of style as the rest of my books, and I didn't want those books to be the first impression readers got of my writing. I also wrote a sci-fi fantasy mash up Kingdom of Acatalec, got a traditional contract book deal, but it flopped because I wasn't and still am not that great at marketing things without more control over what I can do with my books. I received my book rights back and will relaunch that book with my indie control after I finish my Medusa Retelling Series.
The Dark Gods Rising is mythology reimagined if you are like me and believe that the "monsters" of myth and legend were hunted by Greek gods because they were different, because they were a threat to their power and rule. Perhaps, the monsters weren't the bad guys after all, and Medusa wasn't the villain myth made her out to be. There is always more than one side to every story.
Dive into a slow-burn romance, fast-paced fantasy adventure with all the political mechanisms of Greek Myth, and the what-ifs from a different point of view.
