Behind the SCENES of making a book!

Her Alien Starbreaker started as a story for an anthology Beyond Earth. As an Indie author, we find other authors to join together to make anthologies happen. We each pitch in a "buy in", for this anthology each author put 45 into the pool for the organizer to fund things like book cover, formatting, and launch ads.

In order for each author in an 8 author anthology to make their 45 back, with a book that is 99 pennies, each book makes around 35 cents divided by 8 means around 4 pennies to each author per book. Meaning around 1,000 books would have to sell to make back the 45 investment.

Anthologies are not meant to make money, they are a thank you to readers, and a way to reach new readers, in hopes that they love our writing and read the rest of our books!

I'm so excited to announce that the Beyond Earth Anthology was able to get in the hands of over 780+ readers hands! Yes, that's lower than 1,000 books, but I'm very happy with knowing that's more readers than I have reached with my own books in a three-month timeline!

In two years of having Jewel of the Alien Released in January 2023, it has been supported by 561 readers, and during its promo free days it was downloaded by 6,593 readers! That means Jewel of the Alien Bandit is the hands of at least 7K+ readers, which makes me very happy!

As for Her Alien Starbreaker, with the anthology the story is in the hands of over 800 readers! The story is the last story in the anthology, so it may take a while for new readers to read it and join the Trillume Universe, but I'm excited to see more people enjoying my alien romances.

With the relaunch, Her Alien Starbreaker has an extra 15,000 words with an extended ending and a new beginning chapter. It has the beautiful human commissioned artwork of Debanne Art, her art is so lovely, and technically NSFW, but the alien naughty bits have been blurred out for the cover.

When you grab Her Alien Starbreaker directly from my author store, you are supporting future books in the universe, and helping me save up to pay for more artwork, covers, editing, and eventually help me pay for my time to write so that I can continue to write full-time without having to go back to the office with my mini-humans now in school during the day.

On a 3.99 book around 3.17 goes directly to me (flat fee of 55 cents plus a 2.9% fee and partner fee of 15 cents to PayHip), versus on Amazon the same 3.99 book would be 2.70, That's an extra 47 pennies in the author's pocket.

That may not seem like a lot, but for every 5 readers that buy direct from me, that's like getting an extra book sold, and it adds up.

17 readers have decided to buy Her Alien Starbreaker direct so far, and that's an extra 8 dollars that I can add towards my expenses for being an author! It means the world to me to have your support.

It takes me an average of two to three months to write a book, and if one day I want to proudly say that being an author is how I survive this world and pay my bills, that would mean that each book would have to pay for three months of expenses, plus their initial investments in book covers, editing, artwork, website, subscriptions, and marketing.

One day, my author goal is to sell around 1,600 books in a month, or build up my readership to at least 5,000 fans who love to read every book that I write.

I don't have to be an all-star A-lister author to be successful.

I just need to have 5,000 fans!

So, if I think about it like that. It's just a matter of finding my tribe.

There are 7,000+ readers who love to hear from me on this newsletter! But as any marketing guru would remind me, it's typical to only have 20% of a readership be engaged at any given time. So, around 1,400 of you at any given time will actively seek to find out what's going on with me! And 10% of those readers will become fans!

I probably have around 150+ fans, and 1,250+ future fans (Once I convince you to put one of my alien romances at the top of your ever growing TBR, an honor I will continue to do my best to earn!)

I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peek behind the scenes of an indie author! I do not give these stats and transparency to create a space of guilt, but a space of openness and hopefully another indie may see my progress and no matter where they are in their journey they won't feel alone.

Perhaps you are one of my fans, or a future fan! Know that I am grateful for your support! I find having these goals in tangible numbers make the dream not seem so far away, but something I can reach and see progress towards.

When I started I had zero fans! As with every start.
