Building an alien, how do you come up with an alien civilization?
First off, we must think about the primary focuses of the alien's existence and then come up with a stressor on those basic needs:
1) Shelter
2) Food
3) Reproduction
4) Survival
Base motivations of survival of an organism, and of course we want our alien's to be sexy, so of course they've got to have enhanced pleasure centers.
I based the krelins on insect motivations. You might be thinking? WHY? Why would you try to turn something gross into something sexy?
Because I find insects fascinating, and if we didn't think insects could be sexy then there wouldn't be a whole thing on Spider Man, The Wasp, or Ant Man.
Parts I chose to take from insects:
1) Shelter: the throats of krelins have several rows of teeth that come out when the muscles flex, so that they can grind down tissue and bone. It allows them to mulch up stone, store it in glands in their throats, and create a pulp substance that hardens. Similar to bees and wasps that take wood and saliva to create a pulp to create their nests.
2) Food: krelins are however not usually carnivorous, though they consider it an honored tradition to eat their own when they die to have them live on inside of them. But they mostly, like many insects on Earth, survive on nectar combined from various fibrous plants. They have warriors who eat meat occasionally and provide their blood to combine with the nectar to supplement nutrients for the rest of the hive. Similar to mosquitoes.
3) Reproduction: The hive has queens, female warriors that have ultra-sensitive horns (called kan) capable of communicating with the whole hive through their mind. These receptors help a queen krelin to activate reproductive glands within the hive, blessing unions and spawn for the next generation. I liked the idea that bees communicate with each other through dance, and scent, but decided to change the communication to vibrations that are a language in and of itself, which krelins can interpret in their mind, and it's basically like telepathy. They have musk as well, so still like the bees they use pheromones for mating.
4) Survival: What if the main queen killed off future queens of the hive as they were spawned? Old traditions would have the hive eat the old queen when a new queen takes over, or have the new queen create a new hive. But Queen Kai didn't want to share her power and now there is a reproductive crisis in the hive... and the only surviving queen is in the unlikeliest of places...
5) Sexual enhancements: Krelins have knotting peen, scales that flare out to fill and flutter against a female's inner walls. Female estrelds have vibrating clits that activate with touch like spasms that enhance their own pleasure as well as their partners. A krelin's kan(horns) are sensitive to vibrations, and with a mated pair, their horns activate pleasure centers throughout their body, warming them from the inside. Krelin warriors have wings.... do I see sex in mid-air in our future?
Hidden on Estreldez...
Prince Trenton of Krelis went to Estreldez to seek a mating treaty with the leader's daughter Luan, only to be drawn to another when he arrives. Having a kansa fated mate shouldn't be possible when the only queen left on Krelis is his mother... but Mabel makes him question everything.
